CHARLES MAC BRUCE, 74, passed away on May 5, 2007. He was bornin Hope, Ark., on Sept. 25, 1932, the eldest child of Mac Bruce and Ruth Parsons Bruce. Charlie was a golf pro and known in golfing circles as an excellent teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by three children, David Charles Bruce, Kelly Ruth Bruce Hunt of Little Rock, and Ellen Carole Bruce of Fayetteville; and one brother, Bobby Bruce of Hope, Ark. He had four grandchildren, Cannon and Tessa Hunt of Little Rock, and Austen and Cameron Rose of Fayetteville.

Charlie graduated from Hope High School and the University of Houston, Houston, Texas. He served in the USAF from 1953 through 1957, as a golf instructor. He worked as a golf pro at Hope Country Club, Houston, Snyder, Vernon, Texas, Kirkwood, Mo., and in Little Rock, Ark., at Eagle Hill Golf Course. In the 1960s and the 1970s he also worked for Cooper Communities in Bella Vista, Ark. He will be missed by his family and many friends and by golfers across the state.

Services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th, Little Rock, Ark., (501) 661-9111. DAVID WAYNE DUERR, age 49, was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., onMay 15, 1957, and left this world at his home on May 2, 2007. He was the son of Hans and June Duerr and was preceded in death by his father. The family moved from Cheyenne to Kansas City, Kan., then to Dallas, Texas, where Davisfirst attended school. They eventually moved to Little Rock in 1964. David studied art at the University of Central Arkansas and later Engineering at U.A.L.R. He established a construction company and later owned a cabinet shop. He was an avid skydiver, snow skier, and gardener.

He is survived by his son, T. Maxwell Duerr; his mother, June M. Duerr; and his sister, Donna P. Duerr.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2007, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th, Little Rock, Ark., (501) 661-9111. Funeral service will be at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 1000 Mississippi Avenue at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. Interment will be on Monday, May 14, 2007, at Mount View Cemetery in Basin, Wyo., where his maternal set of grandparents, Elizabeth and Wayne Woods, and his father, are also buried.

VIRGIL THOMAS JOSEPH JACUZZI, 56, of Little Rock passed away onSunday, May 6, 2007. He was born Aug. 5, 1950, in Lafayette, Calif., dear son of the late Virgil and Beulah Jacuzzi.

He is survived by his children, Jacqueline and Matthew of Vancouver, British Columbia;as well as his sisters, Beverly Edgell (Bernie) of Maui, Lita Gitt (Joe) of Sea Ranch, Calif., Virginia Burgess (David) of Huntsville, Ontario, Diana McRae (Cam) of Kingston, Ontario and Susan Hansen (Poul) of Mississauga, Ontario; and his brother Paul (Rosie) of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Virg will be missed by his nieces and nephews, his extended family in Little Rock and his beloved uncle and aunt, Remo and Paula Jacuzzi of Little Rock. Virgil grew up in Toronto, Ontario. He graduated from Queen's University in Kingston with a BSc and an MBA. He worked at Jacuzzi Canada, at a Vancouver brokerage firm and at Jason International in Little Rock. Virg had many interests, including music, photography, cooking and SCUBA diving. His diving abilities and organizational efforts contributed to the creation of the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes in Kingston, Ontario, where his name is inscribed on a plaque.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at UAMS and all those who contributed their tireless efforts towards Virgil's palliative care.

Cremation has taken place.

KENNETH STEVEN "STEVE" KOEHLER, age 45, of North Little Rock,Ark., passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007. He was born Aug. 21, 1961, in Little Rock, Ark., to Kenneth E. Koehler and Helen Joy Bridges.

Steve was a bicycle enthusiast. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at LittleRock with a Master's in business. He was also in the process of receiving a nursing degree. Steve had worked with his father for many years in the service-station business. Steve attended Faith Baptist Church. Uncle Steve loved rock hunting with his nieces and nephew.

Steve is survived by his parents, Ken and Joy Koehler; one sister, Suzanne Duty; two nieces, Jennifer Donner, Stephanie Shaw; greatnieces, Lily Shaw, Ava Donner; great-nephew, Dakota Shaw; special family member, Barbara Koehler.

ALMA LEE MATHIS, 72, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on May6, 2007, at Baptist Medical Center. Born in Little Rock to the late Earl and Minnie Williams, Mrs. Mathis was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was active in several church auxiliaries and taught SundaySchool for more than 20 years.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Billy Mathis Sr.; sons, Bill Mathis Jr. of Redding, Conn. and his wife Lisa, Gilbert Mathis and Keith Mathis, both of Little Rock, and Christopher Mathis of Allen, Texas; daughters, Michele Bailey and her husband William, Dana Smith and her husband Derrick, all of Little Rock. Mrs. Mathis also leaves to mourn her passing 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one cousin, and several nieces and nephews.

BARBARA JEAN NOWLIN, age 56, of Mabelvale received her wingson May 6, 2007. She was preceded in death by her father, Jay Edward Moore. JOHN D. SAMUELS SR., 60, of Little Rock died Sunday, May 6, 2007. He was born July 25, 1946, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Horace and Susan Samuels. He was a retired real estate broker, a United States Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War, anda member of the Garrett Memorial Baptist Church in Hope, Ark.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Samuels; a son, John Samuels Jr. and his wife Lori; daughters, Deborah Bobo and husband Glenn, Tammy Scalingi and husband Samuel, all of Little Rock; five grandchildren; a brother, Robert Samuels of Hope; and a sister, Mary Ann Miller of Texarkana, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and he will be missed by all.

CHARLES A. SEWELL SR. of North Little Rock passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007.

Charles was born in Shuler, Ark., to the late John Henry and Amanda Britt Sewell. He was preceded in death by his parents;

wife, Ruby Maxine Sewell; son, Charles Sewell Jr.; brother, Rusty Sewell; sister, Faye Williford.

He retired as a Baptist Minister and was a member of Levy Baptist Church.

He is survived by one grandson, Charles A. Sewell III; two granddaughters, Christine Jorgenson and Amanda Sewell; five grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Sewell.

ALEXANDER - Garen Ray Tiley, born Nov. 11, 1941, in Albuquerque,N.M., died May 4, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by wife of 20 years, Alicia Tiley; sons, Darren and Duane Tiley, Dr. Steven Ray and Carmen Ray Southern; and six grandchildren. Brothers, Larry, Ronnie andGene reside with their families in New Mexico. Garen was employed by Nabholz Construction for the past nine years where he made many friends. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the National USAF Shooting Team. Garen was an avid hunter, fly fisherman, and Goose Hunting Guide.

AUSTIN - Dorothy Griffin, age 78, of Austin, Ark., was born May 18, 1928, at Searcy, Ark., to Earnest Willie and Nellie Beakley Norman, and she went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 7, 2007. She was a member of Austin Station Baptist Church where she was active in Women on Missions, music programs, Vacation Bible School and was a Sunday School teacher.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Herbert Griffin; her parents; and a sister, Wanda Griffin. She is survived by two sons, Mickeal Griffin and his wife Robin of Cabot, and Norman Griffin and his wife Brenda of Ward; two brothers, Richard Norman of Texarkana, Ark., and E.W. BENTON - Mary Bell Bramell, 93, of Benton went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2007. She was born on Feb. 17, 1914, at Honaker, Va., to the late John Wesley and Lulu Emily Bell (Price) Ball.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William Bramell; two sons, Paul Bramell, William Bramell; three grandsons, Robert Bramell, Jeff Bramell, Ray Colonna; one granddaughter, Sharon McGuire; three brothers and three sisters. BENTON - Bertha F. Coffman, age 95, of Benton passed away in Bryant, Ark., on May 5, 2007. She was born on Feb. 16, 1921, near Yellville in Marion, County, Ark., the daughter of George Kirby and Euna Parker Dobbs. She was a graduate of Harrison High School and Draughons College. She retired from the Coffman & Coffman Drug Store, which she and her husband, Dr. J. Raymond Coffman, operated and owned in Harrison, Ark. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Harrison, Ark. She as a 60-year member and Past Worthy Matron of both Harrison Chapter 25, in Harrison and Electa Chapter 29, in Bellefonte, of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had also served as Grand Esther. After her retirement, she served 20 years as a "Pink Lady" at the North Arkansas Medical Center in Harrison.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, Dr. J. Raymond Coffman. Mrs. Coffman is survived by her son, Major George K. Coffman (AHP-Ret.) and wife Janice of Benton; two grandsons, Jonathan Parker Coffman and wife Karla of Conway, and Dr. Christopher D. Melton, MD, and wife Susan; and two great-granddaughters, Brooke Melton and Riley Melton all of Little Rock.

BENTON - Glenn Ross Swain, 72, of Benton died on May 6, 2007,in Benton. He was born on Jan. 20, 1935, at Blytheville, Ark., to the late Harry Lloyd and Selma Ruth (Wright) Swain. Mr. Swain was a truck driver and a member of VFW Post #2256.

Survivors include two sons, LanceSwain and wife Colleen, and Larry Swain and wife Jannet, all of Jefferson, Iowa; one daughter, Delona Lagunas of Benton; five grandchildren, Robert Lagunas, Erica Swain, Eric Swain, Garrett Swain and Lauren Swain; and other relatives and friends.

BRYANT - Eliene Catherine Davis, 86, of Bryant, died on May 6, 2007 at Benton. She was born on Aug. 30, 1920 in Eau Claire, Wis. to the late Dewey and Ella (Lewis) Garton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Davis, and three brothers. Mrs. Davis was a member of Eastern Star and an Administrative Secretary for Somerset Hospital in Somerset, Ky. ENGLAND - Eleanor Morris Gann, age 78, of England, Ark., died May 6, 2007. Mrs. Gann was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta Historical Society and Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She graduated Ward-Belmont Academy in Nashville, Tenn., in 1946 and attended Randolph Macon Womens College in Lynchburg, Va.; graduated the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and graduated the University of Arkansas of Little Rock with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in England where she served on numerous committees. She was a gifted artist and a patron of the Arkansas Arts Center.

Mrs. Gann was preceded in death by her parents, Benton Burns and Marguerite Leeth Morris. Survivors are her husband of 53 years, John Gann of England, Ark.; three sons, James B. HOT SPRINGS - Burney Barnett Whitfield, 66, of Hot Springs, Ark .,passed away on May 6, 2007 in a local hospital. Burney was born in Lonoke, Ark. on February 22, 1941. He graduated from Lonoke High School, Henderson State University and the New Orleans Baptist Seminary. For many years he owned and operateda swimming pool construction business in the Little Rock area. He moved to Hot Springs in 1988 and began a new and very successful 18-year career in the real estate industry. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hot Springs for many years and a member of the Hot Springs Board of Realtors.

METAIRIE, La. - Hazel Carolyn "Granny" Hardke of Metairie, La .,went to be with our Lord on Friday, May 4, 2007, after a short illness. Mrs. Hardke was born on April 17, 1930, in Hickory Plains, Ark., and has lived in Metairie, La., since 1952.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Catherine Hardke; her son, WilliamFranklin Hardke Jr. and wife Lori; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by relatives in Carlisle, Des Arc and Johnson Chapel, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Hardke; daughter, Beverly Ann Hardke Johnson; parents, Geneva and Hayes McDonald; and in-laws, Charles and Ethel Hardke.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Virginia Inez Guenther, age 83, of Golden Valley, Minn., passed away on Friday, May 4, 2007. Born Oct. 5, 1923 in Battle Creek, Mich., she was the daughter of Leonard Neil Stowe and Josephine Long Stowe. She was gently cared for at the North Memorial Hospital and Hospice Center and died peacefully.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Guenther, who passed away in 2004. She is survived by sons, Steven, Warren and daughter-in-law Bernadette; and three grandchildren, Michael, Regina and Mitchell, all of Minneapolis, Minn.

Married in 1945, Virginia and her family lived in Minneapolis and Duluth, Minn., and also Little Rock, Ark. She was a devoted wife and mother, active in charity work with the American Cancer Society and member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

The loss of her husband had a profound impact on Mom. She kept the lyrics to their favorite driving song with her always:

Maybe we're ragged and funny

But we'll travel the road, carrying our load

OKLAHOMA CITY - Richard John Rhea of Oklahoma City, born to Charles and Viola Rhea on Oct. 31, 1944, passed away on May 1, 2007. Richard was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed his tools and woodworking. His first love was being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Richard is survived by wife, Jackie of the home; son, Major Anthony Rhea and wife Tammie of Maryland; daughter, Jodee Stotts and husband Mike of Maumelle, Ark.; son, Allen Rhea and wife Michelle of Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, Dillon, Ethan and Jenna Rhea, all of Maryland, Austin and Kennedy Stotts of Maumelle, Ark., Xavier of Little Rock, Ark.; three step-grandchildren, Lindsey, Jeffrey and Regan, all of Maumelle, Ark.; sister, Connie Decker and husband Marvin of DeRidder, La.; brothers, Eddie Rhea and wife Wanda of DeRidder, La., Sam Rhea and wife Doreen of Santa Maria, Calif., Dale Rhea and wife Alice of Sequim, Wash., James Rhea and wife Carol of Columbia, La.; and numerous loving nieces, nephews and other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Rhea and Viola Churchwell Rhea.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday May 10, 2007, at the North Little Rock Funeral Home, located at 1921 Main Street, North Little Rock, Ark. Arrangements are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel.

SMITHFIELD, Va. - Apostle Everne Kelley was called to his heavenlyhome on Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Maryview Medical Center. He was the founding pastor of Life Word International Ministry, Newport News.

Apostle Kelley was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,Alvin, Ronald. He leaves to cherish his life and legacy, a devoted wife, Shenetta Kelley of Smithfield, Va.; seven children; 11 grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters; aunts, uncles, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, and a spiritual father.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, May 9th at Living Waters Christian Fellowship, 15611 Warwick Blvd., Newport News. Viewing Tuesday from 1-7 p.m. at Shivers Funeral Chapel and two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held in Tynes Memorial Cemetery, Smithfield. Arrangements by Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield.
