Job ResponsibilitiesIndividual will assist in capturing estuarine fishes, in particular Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon, and will assist in diadromous fish sampling when needed. This will involve extensive time in small boats (during the Summer and Winter/often in inclement weather) setting nets, communicating with commercial fishermen, taking water quality and current measurements. Individual will also be expected to assist with other projects within section. Other duties include, but are not limited to, mending nets and repairing gear as needed. Work may include unusual hours, some weekends and will involve being out of town for field sampling.
Minimum And Additional RequirementsA high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences.
Preferred QualificationsAbility to identify marine and riverine fishes, utilize computers and microscopes, collate biological and water quality data, and lift heavy equipment and specimens. These abilities would normally be acquired through college education with a degree in marine biology or related field and/or work experience. Applicant must be able to swim, and demonstrate that they have small boat experience. Ability to record data legibly.
