Fayette County man charged in Morgantown rape (2024)

morgantown, w.va. — Morgantown police have arrested a Fayette County man and charged him with the sexual assault of an intoxicated woman in Morgantown earlier this year.

Jordan Gray, 25, of Scarbro, W.Va. is charged with sexual assault for the incident which occurred outside a Morgantown nightclub March 3rd.

The criminal complaint claimed the woman was highly intoxicated when she met Gray inside the club. The two left the establishment together. According to investigators the woman was so intoxicated she could barely stand. Gray helped support her until they got behind the club where police said he forcibly removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her behind the building.

The criminal complaint also stated at the end of the encounter, Gray “lost his grip” on the victim and she fell to the ground face-first. Police said Gray was unable to pick her up and walked away, leaving her there.

He’s lodged in the Southern Regional Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Bluefield woman sentenced to prison for drug crime

bluefield, w.va. — Denise R. Allen, 29, of Bluefield, was sentenced today to five years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on Aug. 16, 2023, Allen and another individual were apprehended at a gun store in Princeton.

Following their arrest, Allen and the other individual consented to a search by law enforcement officers of a truck they had rented using a stolen identity.

Officers found 431 grams of methamphetamine, 21 grams of fentanyl and two Glock 9mm semiautomatic handguns during the search of the rental truck. Allen admitted that she and the other individual possessed the methamphetamine and fentanyl and intended to distribute it.

United States Attorney Will Thompson made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.

The task force consists of members of the West Virginia State Police, the Bluefield Police Department, the Princeton Police Department, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department, and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.

Juneteenth 2024 declared as state holiday in W.Va.

charleston, w.va. — Gov. Jim Justice issued a proclamation, officially declaring Juneteenth 2024 as a state holiday in West Virginia.

Juneteenth, which is recognized on June 19 each year, celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States.

The Juneteenth State holiday this year will be observed on Wednesday, June 19, as a full-day holiday for all state public employees.

Gov. Justice also reminds West Virginians that the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs is hosting a Juneteenth Celebration on the Kanawha Boulevard lawns of the West Virginia Capitol Complex on Saturday, June 15, from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Raheem DeVaughn and Glenn Jones will headline performers for the 2024 Juneteenth Celebration.

Gas price falls 6 cents in West Virginia in last week

Average gasoline prices in West Virginia have fallen 6.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.37 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 1,154 stations in West Virginia. Prices in West Virginia are 10.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 1.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 6.7 cents in the last week and stands at $3.75 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in West Virginia was priced at $2.97 per gallon yesterday while the most expensive was $3.69 per gallon, a difference of 72.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $2.97 per gallon while the highest was $3.69 per gallon, a difference of 72 cents per gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 10 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.40 per gallon today. The national average is down 23 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 18.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

AAA reported Monday that pump prices in Beckley were $3.492 per gallon. One year ago, prices were averaging $3.446 per gallon in Beckley.

Average gasoline prices for local counties on Monday were:

• Raleigh — $3.502 per gallon

• Mercer — $3.293 per gallon

• McDowell — $3.443 per gallon

• Summers — $3.444 per gallon

• Monroe — $3.429 per gallon

• Greenbrier — $3.201 per gallon

• Fayette — $3.482 per gallon

• Wyoming — $3.462 per gallon

NRCTC to offer first aid training starting in July

ghent, w.va. – New River Community and Technical College will offer comprehensive Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification training.

This course is designed to equip participants with the skills to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants.

The course will be offered on July 19, from 8 a.m.-noon at the Advanced Technology Center, 527 Odd Road, Ghent. The cost for the course is $150.

The course satisfies OSHA workplace or other regulatory requirements. Participants will gain skills and knowledge to respond effectively in emergency situations.
